Homeschool in Michigan
Dear Michigan Homeschool Family,
Welcome to this page we have created just for you.
You are a busy family as you work to raise your children and provide them an incredible education.
Thank you for what you do. We believe that the role of the homeschool family is crucial to the preservation of traditional values.
Responsible Christian citizens: We believe that we must be engaged citizens, training our children on the importance of praying for our leaders, voting for the best leaders, speaking up with respect and kindness in the civic square. We want to be of service to you as you educate your family in these matters.
Your Public Policy Advocates: We have been working since 1989 to protect your right to home school and to defend your right as parents to raise your children as you see best.
FAQs
Here are some frequently asked questions.
What should I know?
Freedom to homeschool is not guaranteed. Groups like ours are monitoring the policy discussions and working to make sure we get leaders in place who will continue to champion your right to educate at home. The preservation of this right comes from homeschool families and every day citizens being engaged in the process.
What are simple things I can do?
You are a busy homeschool family. We don’t want to distract from your role of educating your children. We encourage you to include your children in the process of civic engagement. You will be in awe to see how they engage with it and how God will use the process to influence their future decisions.
- Teach your children to pray for your local, county, state, and national leaders
- Be registered to vote and teach your children the importance of voting. www.Michigan.gov/vote is a wonderful tool to find all your local information and follow what is on your upcoming ballot.
- Ask your Pastor if they would be interested in taking Voter Guides at election time. There are so many resources available and so many Church-attendees that do not know where to go for resources. We can help. Sign up via this form and we will follow up.
- Watch our email list and we will keep you informed when Homeschool related issues are “up for consideration.” There will be rare moments when we will need you to make a phone call or email your Legislators.
- Find a way to build relationship with your local, county and state elected leaders. They need you and you need the relationships with them so if you ever have an issue – they will know you and take your call.
These are simple things to do and we can help.
How do I know who my elected leaders are?
The State of Michigan has a wonderful tool:
When you visit this link, go to the top of the page and visit the “Your Ballot Information” tab. Enter your information. It will generate a report that will tell you:
- if you are registered to vote, and where you vote, what district you live in, and who your elected leaders are
- if you are not registered to vote and how to do so
Does my voice really make a difference?
You have no idea how much influence the voice of a homeschool parent, a homeschool student, or a collective group of home school families can have on your elected leaders.
Yes, your voice and your presence makes a difference.
Still have questions?
Michigan thrives when Homeschool leaders and families get involved
Why it Matters
If and when the homeschool voices DO NOT show up, those making decisions assume “all is well.” Eternal privelage to enjoy homeschool freedom is because many have made sacrifices: you stand on the shoulders of incredible people that have fought hard for this freedom.
If you do not engage now, future generations will not know or appreciate the liberties you love so much.
