In November, Michigan citizens will vote on an amendment to the State Constitution that would allow unrestricted experimentation on human embryos and would allow scientists to bypass any state or local laws that would attempt to limit their research. Although embryonic stem-cell research is currently allowed—though not state funded—in Michigan, the danger of this amendment is that it would permit any and all kinds of research on human embryos and force taxpayers to foot the bill. This is equivalent to “Frankenstein” science and will, in the words of a key supporter, “Pave the way for human cloning” in Michigan. CTV is a member of the broad coalition opposed to Proposal 2 aptly named Michigan Citizens Against Unrestricted Science and Experimentation. We encourage a NO vote on Proposal 2.
