Moving people from Sunday's pews to Tuesday's polling booth
Our Pews to the Polls grassroots initiative promotes the
importance of responsible Christian citizenship in thousands of churches
in strategic areas throughout Michigan. These networks of Church Liaisons
provide educational materials and seminars, conduct voter registration
drives and distribute church-friendly voter guides prior to the elections. Our
efforts have been proven to increase voter awareness and participation.
Responsible Christian Citizenship
Responsible Christian Citizenship includes participation in the public
conversation about important issues in order to positively influence the
ultimate decisions that will affect every aspect of our lives and those of
future generations. In our society, that public conversation includes, but is
not limited to, such important topics as:
Unborn Human Life: is life unique and does it come from God, and is the
purpose of civil government to protect innocent human life?
Traditional Marriage: are there God-given moral laws that are still
relevant today? Is the family a God-ordained and society strengthening
institution?
Public Religious Expression: should the act of acknowledging God in our
public life be prohibited or should religious freedom be preserved for all
citizens?
If people of faith do not take part in the dialogue on these important issues,
there is little chance that the ultimate outcomes will reflect our values!
Participation in this important public conversation can take many forms,
including, but not limited to prayer, education, issues awareness, letters to
the editor, contacting elected officials, voting, advocacy,
volunteering and campaigning.
A Church Liaison
Would you like to help make a difference in Michigan? Well, then we need you!
Please consider becoming a church liaison
for your church family! This easy, yet very influential, role is crucial to our preservation of traditional family values in Michigan.
What: As a church liaison, you would serve as a liaison between your church family and Citizens for Traditional Values. We would get you information (important legislation, decisions that are about to be made) and then you would pass it onto your congregation. You would also host a Citizenship Sunday where you’ll encourage people to register to vote and provide them with information to pray.
When: Whenever you and your pastor decide! But here are some ideas.
Where: Set up a table in your fellowship hall, or in the church foyer. Anywhere that people make the most traffic.
Why: Help us help you keep your family up to date on urgent issues that are happening in our State Legislature.
It’s simple. It’s easy. It’s powerful. And we need you now!
What do you need:
- Email us for a copy of our Church Liaison packet with all the info you’ll need!
- The Blessing of My Pastor: Make sure he is on board with you a) educating the church family on important issues and b) hosting a Citizenship Sunday (voter registration etc). Do not proceed without his/the church leadership’s blessing.
- A volunteer or two, that will take the information we send you (on important legislation, etc) and put in the church bulletin, share in Bible studies or perhaps mention as announcements at church.
- Email! Sign up for our mailing list and we will send you email updates for you to share with congregation.
- Understand what churches can legally do during elections and campaigns:
The Bible instructs us that we must all work together to be "salt" and "light" as representatives and Ambassadors for Christ.
