Issue Research: Gambling
CTV does not support the expansion of gambling, of any kind, in Michigan. We have already become the Las Vegas of the north and acknowledge the well-documented harmful effects of gambling on individuals and communities. We disagree with those who think Michigan, or any state or community, can gamble its way to prosperity.

Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission on Gambling
Since 1890, the Southern Baptist Convention has formally expressed its opposition to legalized gambling. Over the course of more than 100 years, the Convention has adopted 14 resolutions on this issue. The most recent resolution was passed in 1997. It calls on all Christians “to exercise their influence by refusing to participate in any form of gambling or its promotion.” In addition, the resolution urges “political leaders to enact laws restricting and eventually eliminating all forms of gambling and its advertisement. -

National Council on Problem Gambling
The Mission of the National Council on Problem Gambling is to increase public awareness of pathological gambling, ensure the widespread availability of treatment for problem gamblers and their families, and to encourage research and programs for prevention and education. -
National Gambling Impact Study Commission Report
This Commission conducted a comprehensive legal and factual study of the social and economic implications of gambling in the United States. This Report presents the principal findings of that effort and the recommendations believed to provide a coherent framework for action.
