Previous Event Reports ...
Presented by Citizens for Traditional Values & Americans for Prosperity Foundation of Michigan
Kalamazoo/Portage Michigan, September 14, 2009
Speakers: Jack Hoogendyk (former State Representative), James Muffett (CTV President), Scott Hagerstrom (AFP Director)

We had over 50 people RSVP for this event. One of the several attendees walked out the door saying: "Thank you, this was so helpful!"

Jack Hoogendyk, brought attendees up to speed on what is happening with the current budget 'battle' in the State Legislature. Questions of attendees were things like: "How do we be more affective with social networking tools?" "How can we prevent gerrymandering of districting?" "I've tried so many times to get a hold of US Senators Levin & Stabenow and they won't respond. Do my calls to them really make a difference?"

Local grassroots leaders presented at the end on the Kalamazoo city battle on the civil rights discrimination effort underway to provide many freedoms for those choosing the homosexual lifestyle. To find out how to get involved, visit this website and contact them. Let organizers know that "CTV sent me!" Stay tuned for more trainings to come!

Spring Arbor, Michigan Thursday, August 20, 2009
Speakers: Tim Walberg (former Congressman), Allen Lowe (former State Representative), Scott
Hagerstrom (Americans for Prosperity), James Muffett (President of CTV)

Over 130 citizens from around Michigan traveled from as far away as Traverse City, Muskegon, Bay City, Hillsdale, Detroit and more! They were eager to find out what they can do to change the direction of our state's rapid encroachment of dependancy and take over of
government. Here are a few of the speakers' key points:

Tim Walberg, former Congressman (also running again for Congress in 2010) discussed how conservative ideals are still alive and need to be expected in our leaders, who are capable of being standard bearers. He noted we must be moving forward to obtain once again, peoples' respect and credibility. He spoke on behalf of the leadership of the event in saying, this hour is not a time to complain, but a time to learn from our mistakes and step up to the plate! Mr. Walberg said: “Power is not only what you have but about what you’re opponent thinks you have”. How true!

Former State Representative Allen Lowe (now with Americans for Prosperity) reminded attendees of the big picture of government, sharing his own story of deciding to run for office and how he did it successful as a man with little money and little experience at the time.

He was able to give a former insider perspective, emphasizing that Elected Leaders DO want to know how their constituents feel about the issues. But, we need to remember that it is our responsibility to meet with and speak to our representatives.
Elected officials do make note if people don't communicate with their offices on opinions as well.

CTV President James Muffett gave perspective on how everything we work toward now is about long term involvement. It's not just about being involved when there are pressing issues, but it must be a long term, life vision of 'citizenship'. He explained the importance of the foundation of our country and the founding fathers, sharing Alexander Solzhenitsyn's words: “To destroy a people, you must first sever them from their roots”.

James challenged attendees to consider: "Are you IN – active, RE-active, or PRO-active? We
NEED to be Pro-active." He took a few minutes to explain how citizens can get more involved with the faith based voters and tips on how to do it respectfully and strategically and effectively.

Scott Hagerstrom, former legislative office employee and current lobbyist with Americans for Prosperity, explained how lobbying one's elected leader works. He helped attendees understand how to effectively communicate with elected officials, gave perspective on what kind of pressure elected leaders can be under from other lobbying groups that might oppose your stance on an issue, and tactile things to do to start
to be a participate of the shaping of public opinion in the legislature.

Question and answers were addressed at the end. Attendees were encouraged, one gal from Port Huron noting: "I wish my whole team would have been here!"
