Primary Elections Matter!
Why You Should Vote on August 3, 2010
By James Muffett, President of Citizens for Traditional Values
Sadly,
many Americans choose not to exercise the privilege of voting and this is
especially true in primaries!
However, due to the lopsided demographics in many districts, the primary
often determines the outcome in the general election.
Because there are fewer voters, each ballot carries more weight and often
the margins of victory are very small. After over 20 years of participating in
and observing elections, I can tell you that the primary has a great impact on
whether traditional family values will be represented in our elected officials.
In general elections, your choices are limited to the Republican or Democrat on
the ballot, except in a few cases in which there is a viable minor party
candidate in the race. Often, however, none of the viable candidates represent
your values, creating a moral dilemma often referred to as voting for “the
lesser of two evils.” In that case, instead of not voting at all, or throwing
your vote away on a candidate who has no chance to win, I encourage you to
choose the candidate who your think will do the least harm.
Primaries provide the only opportunity to avoid that situation, and that is why
they are so important! Instead of waiting for the general election, take the
initiative and find out who the best candidates are in the primary and work for
them, support them, promote them and VOTE for them. The only way to ensure that
you are able to actually vote your values in November, is to make sure that the
candidates who share those values win in August!
