The race for state Supreme Court has so far been quiet, but it is one of the most important elections on the non-partisan ballot. Chief Justice Clifford Taylor is being challenged by Wayne Circuit Judge Diane M. Hathaway. Taylor should be retained on the court. (Continue Reading...)
As we approach Tuesday, November 4, 2008, I am seized with a sense of urgency. Throughout my 20 plus years in politics, I have come to know and value the importance of what some call "values voters." As in the 2004 Presidential election, it is a proven fact that they do impact elections, especially when the margins are very small. Therefore, we must not let apathy or indifference take hold. "We are largely remaking the legal culture in this state to return it to a traditional, jurisprudential approach - which is that courts interpret the law, they don't make it," he [Cliff Taylor] said. "If I can get another term... we can really fully expose a whole generation of Michigan lawyers to this approach to the law and perhaps internalize it to some degree."

A new study shows that California has overtaken Massachusetts in the number of same-sex marriages performed. California voters will be asked in November to decide an amendment to the state constitution that would formally restrict marriage to heterosexual couples. (Continue Reading...)
In a 4-3 decision, the Connecticut Supreme Court Friday struck down the state’s marriage law, which defines marriage as the union between one man and one woman, saying it is unconstitutional. Alliance Defense Fund attorneys had filed a friend-of-the-court brief on behalf of the Family Research Council asking the court to affirm marriage. (Continue Reading...)
Under Chief Justice Cliff Taylor's leadership, this Court respects the rule of law and will not usurp the Legislature's constitutional responsibilities. He has not - and will not - legislate his own opinion from the bench. There will, of course, be many accusations but you can get the truth about the smears at www.clifftaylor.com.
Join Pastors statewide in hosting a CCC Sunday in your church on Sunday, October 26th or Sunday, November 2nd. Use these final Sundays before the election to remind your congregation and fellow church members to:
• Consider the vital importance of a conservative justice system. Send them to www.ctvmichigan.org for additional voter information.
• Research two statewide ballot proposals* they will be voting on. Download this CTV summary with talking points and reproduce it, distribute it, email it and more!
• Pray for the elections.
• Vote on November 4th, remembering that Supreme Court Judge and ballot proposals are in the non-partisan section at the end of the ballot!
*Pastors are allowed to speak for and against Ballot Proposals from the Pulpit.
Email us if you'd like to participate (or have any questions), and we'll help you put together materials to use. If you're not a pastor, call him/her now and ask them to share this information with your church. Even 1 extra vote can change an election and keep candidates with pro-life and pro-family values representing you!
In this season when Michigan residents are concerned with the preservation of a conservative Supreme Court, a balanced perspective on the
court system is encouraging. Read this article by Former Federal Judge, Law Professor and CTV Board Member William Wagner.
Michigan Law and the Scales of Justice: Life in the Balance
The analysis of the Michigan Supreme Court presents a strong statuory scheme protecting life and a court
majority committed to principles of judicial restraint. This jurisprudential commitment of the current
Court to defer to legislative enactments, combined with Michigan's existing statutory scheme protecting
life, presently provides an excellent platform for defending life, particularly with a vision toward the
era after Roe v Wade's reversal. (Continue Reading...)
The Wall Street Journal has called the Michigan Supreme Court the “finest court in the land.” Chief Justice Taylor has served on the
Michigan Supreme Court for ten years, and will stand for re-election to an eight-year term in November 2008. Check out this
interview with Cliff Taylor from American Justice Partnership Foundation.
