Will the Michigan Supreme Court become like Massachusetts or California with Judges imposing their liberal agenda from the bench?

Not if we act now!

Dear Michigan Pastors and Christian Leaders:

While most people will be focused on the Presidential election this fall, there is another contest of critical importance for Michigan citizens - the Michigan Supreme Court.

Although often overlooked, the Courts in America have been responsible for many horrible decisions including legalized abortion, the proliferation of obscenity, and homosexual "marriage" just to name a few.

The current Michigan Supreme Court, however, under the leadership of Chief Justice Clifford Taylor, stands in stark contrast to the "judicial activism" that has been so prevalent in recent years throughout our nation.

We are blessed to have one of the best State Supreme Courts in America that has consistently upheld traditional, family and Judeo-Christian values. However, we may be only one vote away from a major ideological shift in the Court!

On November 4, 2008 Cliff Taylor will be up for re-election and will be opposed by a very liberal candidate who will be well funded and supported by trial lawyers, the ACLU, and the homosexual community. In contrast, Chief Justice Cliff Taylor has been endorsed by Right to Life of Michigan and Citizens for Traditional Values PAC.

That is why we have formed "Clergy for a Conservative Court" and are asking for your help and support in this important non-partisan election!

If Cliff Taylor loses this race, it may dramatically alter the make-up of the court and will likely change the quality of life for the citizens of Michigan, especially pro-life and pro-family voters.

In fact, there have been cases appearing before the State Supreme Court, decided by only one vote on important issues such as parental rights, personal responsibility and sexual orientation lawsuits. As we have seen in California and Massachusetts recently, the courts make important decisions that affect our lives and communities. Will traditional marriage be upheld? Will we protect the lives of the unborn? Will we have the right to exercise our religious freedoms?

Will we have judges who are committed to interpreting the law instead of imposing their own political agendas?

I am asking you, as a leader in your community and state, to join this effort and then help expand this important coalition throughout Michigan.

Here’s what I am asking you to do:

  1. Add your name to our statewide email list of supporters on our website at www.ctvmichigan.org/clergyforaconservativecourt/clergyform.htm.

  2. Recruit 5 – 10 Pastors and Christian leaders who will also add their support.

  3. Share this important information with everyone in your sphere of influence.

This election requires our prayerful and active engagement now. We are asking leaders like you to encourage their congregations and organizations to vote on November 4. The stakes are high and our voices must be heard!

Please review and distribute the enclosed materials to your congregation, other leaders in your denomination and citizens throughout the Christian community. For additional information, please visit our website at www.ctvmichigan.org/clergyforaconservativecourt.

We know that you are busy, but time is short and the effects of this Supreme Court election will be long lasting. We must be "Responsible Christian Citizens" and good stewards in the marketplace of ideas. It is vital that we act now!

Please contact my office at 517-321-1392 or ctvpac@ctvmichigan.org if you have any questions, need additional information, or would like to discuss further ways you can be of help. We will keep our supporters updated by communicating via our email list. Note: All communication for this project will be email driven.

We must not become the "next California"! Our decisions and actions today will influence our culture tomorrow and our engagement as leaders will set the precedent for those who follow us.

The preservation of pro-life, pro-family values for the next generation demands our involvement today.

Sincerely,

James E. Muffett
President of Citizens for Traditional Values
Clergy for Conservative Court

P.S. Mark your calendar for Saturday, August 23 for an afternoon Summit in Novi Michigan for Pastors and Church leaders. It will be an opportunity to meet Justice Taylor, hear more about why we’re so close to resembling California and how to successfully work together to preserve our traditional values. More details to follow soon!
