2006 Election Summary

The 2006 elections may well have been one of the most significant in the past 20 years.

While the Democrats retained the Governor’s seat, won a majority in the State House and captured the University Boards, Republicans did re-elect the Secretary of State and Attorney General while maintaining control of the State Senate. Senator Mike Bishop (CTV-PAC endorsed and long time friend) is the new Senate Majority Leader. In addition, Republicans kept all of the incumbent congressional seats, and sent, Tim Walberg, a new conservative champion, to Washington.

CTV activated our Pews to the Polls program, an aggressive program driven to educated the traditional value voters and move them from the “pews” to the voting booth.

This election season, the program was directed by 9 Field Coordinators throughout the state who worked to register, educate and mobilize social conservative voters.

CTV also sponsored statewide radio and TV ads featuring Dr. James Dobson urging Michigan citizens to vote their values.

Even with the major shift in power in the State Legislature, 68% of the candidates endorsed by the CTV Political Action Committee won. Here are those results.

State House: 72 endorsed. 44 won. 61%
State Senate: 20 endorsed. 19 won. 95%

As we look to the future, the role of CTV will become even more important. The change in the Michigan House and Senate leadership will most assuredly mean that legislation will need to be monitored now more than ever closely in order to inform and mobilize our members.

In addition, CTV must continue to build grassroots networks throughout Michigan that will work to promote responsible Christian citizenship by encouraging consistent prayer for our civil government, sponsoring Citizenship Sundays throughout the year, raising awareness of important issues, and registering voters.
