Greetings from Executive Director

By CTV Executive Director Amy Hawkins

“Governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”
   - Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776

It is breath-taking to realize that in a little over 72 hours, the destiny of Michigan’s 10 million people will be decided as we exit the polling booths in our communities. It never ceases to amaze me the great potential for influence that exists, dependent on how the faith community responds and how greatly we take action.

This election cycle is one of the most important in Michigan’s past 20 years. In a few hours, national, state and local leaders will be decided, in every seat from Governor, to Michigan Supreme Court Justices, to State Legislators to local Judges and more. It is these leaders who will make decisions that impact you, me, our children, the next generation and the ones to follow.

We will wake up on November 8th, to the results of how you and I, our friends and family voted on November 7th. The destiny of 10 million people’s lives hangs, yes ultimately in God’s but, partially in our hands. Just like the founding fathers so proudly stated, government is put in place among men and women who gain power based on our decisions as voting individuals.

November 7th is an important day in the history of this state! As educated, responsible and prayerful citizens, we have choices to make. We have leaders to elect and proposals to pass. When you walk into your voting booth, know that you were destined by God for this very moment in history. YOU are putting pen to paper to carry out His purpose for Michigan. And it’s not a mistake He’s given us this choice – only it’s our responsibility as to what we do with it.

Take this moment to stop and call 5 friends reminding them to vote. Knock on your neighbor’s door to see if they need a ride to the polling booth. Make an announcement at church encouraging everyone to go vote and then join you at your house for a celebration party to watch the election results.

Please don’t take this responsibility lightly – there are many right now (and of past generations) who are laying down their lives for our freedom to make decisions that impact our destiny. Cease this moment and join me in changing the world November 7, 2006. This Election Day will be a moment in tomorrow’s history you do not want to miss!
