A Reflection on Yesterday and a Look at Tomorrow

By Amy Hawkins, CTV Executive Director

As I look back on 2007, I find it hard to believe that yet another year has passed. It is good to reflect on the fact that much has been accomplished for good but it is also worthy to reflect on the things that we should take note of and change in the future.

We have stood against the advancement of embryonic stem cell research, seen the debate over our failing economy, and watched national leaders’ exposure on issues of morality. We’ve seen majorities change in both the federal and state legislatures and seen the results of a liberal legislative majority. We’ve agonized over the state economy. Our concerns as a nation escalated on global warming. We’ve experienced natural disasters as they tore our world apart. And the struggle on terrorism and the war in the Middle East fought to take first place on America’s issues of concern.

But we have also seen new people get motivated on helping engage their communities for the preservation of Judeo Christian values. We have seen the next generation exhilarated at the idea of reaching their culture with absolute truth. We have seen adult stem cell research finally be acknowledged as something that is working to change lives. We have seen success in the establishment of a democracy in Iraq, thanks to our men and women in service. We’ve watched creativity in the world of technology expand. And most importantly, we have seen God answer prayers for physical and spiritual needs.

I look ahead to 2008 and wait in expectation. Questions arise – will those in power that have liberal agendas see the success of their efforts on issues that matter to them? Will the conservative with the traditional family values voice their concerns and their approval on issues of which they are most passionate? Will they hold leaders accountable to their commitments and promises? Who will the citizens of the United States elect to be their next Commander and Chief? Will religious freedoms continue to be demonized? What progress will be made in the effort to preserve life, at all stages? Will we serve those in need and sacrifice the shirt on our back to take care of them? Who will we see arise as new leaders? What values will we advocate for and refuse to compromise? And how will we impact the next generation?

Life is very fluid. Outcomes develop based on the decisions we make, whether positive or negative. In this day and hour, it is urgent for those of us with traditional family values to not only be aware of the issues affecting our communities but to make decisions to be more involved, voice our opinions and therefore influence our culture. When we get to the end of 2008 and we look around us, we will see the consequences of the choices we have made, for good or bad.

The news can at times be bleak and yet the future optimistic but the one remaining, unchanging and amazing fact is that God is still the same. He never changes. And He knows what is coming in the days ahead and how to help us make sense of the days before. And for me, that is enough.

Have an amazing new year as you remember that we are making progress on defending and promoting our precious conservative values. Life is shifting around us but know that good is happening and you are making a difference!
